This project was organized around a virtual workshop where interdisciplinary teams worked together to develop “stories” using open data available
through National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) that can be developed into training modules and accompanied by a science communication, data visualization, and/or artwork that tells the story. The long-term goal was to broaden participation in data science by demonstrating its social and cultural relevance and reducing barriers to teaching data literacy in the classroom. The event was a starting point to enable the development of a framework and collaborative network for future activities.
