Code for Science and Society is proud to announce its third cohort of Event Fund grant recipients! The 13 project teams in this cohort are located across 12 countries including Turkey, South Africa, USA, UK, Indonesia, Argentina, Ecuador, Uganda, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Brazil, and Pakistan.

This article summarizes some of the key points raised during a panel discussion entitled "Get the Money: Fiscal sponsorship and other ways to receive and administer grants and donations'' (April 2022). The seminar aimed to provide information on the operational work involved in running a grant-funded project, and to answer questions from current and future Event Fund grantees looking to establish an operational configuration best suited for receiving their funding.

The Carpentries build global capacity in essential data and computational skills for conducting open research. Last year, supported by an Event Fund grant, the Carpentries hosted their first virtual CarpentryConnect from South Africa. The team is proud to announce that the closed captions of the opening and closing keynotes are now available in both isiZulu and isiXhosa! Translations into these African languages represents an important step towards continuing to foster an active, inclusive, diverse community of learners and instructors that better reflects the world's diversity of languages.

Event Fund grantee, Data Umbrella, has been hosting regular data sprints to grow the skills and confidence of first-time and regular contributors to open source software communities such as scikit-learn, a widely used machine learning library of Python. In this post–part of an ongoing series that focuses on the organizing processes, tools, and practices used to run successful Event Fund-sponsored Open Science events–we learn about some of the changes that Data Umbrella incorporated when shifting from in-person data sprints to an online format.
