Launch of Landscape Report on Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease Communities of Practice

In 2023, the programs team at Code for Science & Society has engaged open source communities of practice developing modeling tools for Climate Sensitive Infectious Diseases (CSID). We are excited to share a landscaping report produced from this engagement.

“Governance is life” - “Life is open source”: Insights from Digital Infrastructure Incubator’s “Courageous Conversations”

In 2023, CS&S Senior Program Manger Miliaku Nwabueze curated and facilitated the speaking series called “Courageous Conversations” where open-source technologists and scientists, solidarity economy ecosystem nerds, co-ops, lawyers, farmers, and frontline activists discussed the co-optation of disruption in open tech. The reverberation throughout the series was that ‘life’ is simply what we’re fighting for.

Inside the Culturally Responsive Education in Environmental Data Science (CREEDS) Workshop

Dr. Natasha Gownaris (Tasha), an Assistant Professor at Gettysburg College, describes a student-centered process for developing culturally responsive data science modules. This project was embedded in a larger initiative that brought together educators, practitioners, and community leaders to discuss how to make data science education more culturally responsive.
